In the heart of nature,
we help you build a life without dependency

Meditation helps you find a balance of body and mind.
One to one sessions will help you understand the underlying causes of your addiction
Alternative therapies are part of our holistic approach

Our holistic approach gives your life a new balance

Your personal history and needs are the basis of our treatment programs, adopted from internationally renowned methods to treat dependency.

We combine the best medical treatment methods lead by prominent Swiss doctors and a holistic approach to dependency treatment. Our holistic approach comprises the 12-step guidelines and a complete set of complementary therapies to help you find a perfect balance of body and mind.

During your stay at Alpine Horizon, you take part in group sessions based on the 12-step guidelines, lead by psychoanalysts and other professionals with experience in dependency treatment. At our one-to-one sessions, you learn how to break past thought patterns and look deeply into feelings and behaviour which could interfere with your recovery.

Alpine Horizon’s complementary therapies add to your well-being. They are an essential part of your recovery and are provided in two areas :

  • Alternative therapies, such as meditation, reflexology, acupuncture, art therapy and homeopathy.
  • Wellness activities, including sports programs tailor-made to your needs (cycling, walking, swimming), yoga, golf, guided tours to discover the natural surroundings and the sunrises and sunsets.

Family members are often essential to support our clients’ healing system. This is why we encourage them to take part in our Family Program, where meetings with psychoanalysts and individual sessions shed light on their role in the patient’s recovery.

about our treatment methods

At Alpine Horizon, we use methods that are evidence-based and have a proven track record of efficiently treating addictions on a long term basis. We have a comprehensive range of therapies available

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

« If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place » Lao Ten

It is common for individuals struggling with addiction to have destructive and negative thought patterns. CBT is a therapy based on the present, is problem-focused and goal-oriented. Client and therapist work hand in hand to understand and recognize situations where an addictive behaviour is engaged. By recognizing these situations, it becomes easier to deal with or avoid them and to challenge the irrational and negative thought patterns that can lead to an addictive behaviour.
CBT has been proven to significantly increase a person’s chances of long term sobriety.

Addiction Counselling

During addiction counselling sessions, we help our clients recover from the damage caused by addiction in their lives. Clients are the corner stone of the addiction counselling model as they are recognized as the main actors in achieving and maintaining abstinence. They are however not alone in the process, we encourage them to look for and leverage on as many supporters as possible, such as treatment staff, counsellors, family members and recovering peers.
The addiction counselling model efficiently complements our other therapeutic interventions as part of the client’s treatment or aftercare program.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a well-researched integrative psychotherapy approach that is used to accelerate emotional healing and reduce psychological stress. It was developed by Francine Shapiro and was originally used in the treatment of trauma to alleviate disturbing memories. EMDR has since been used to reduce anxiety, depression, grief and the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Additionally, it can be extremely effective in reducing or eliminating addictive and compulsive behaviours.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation through eye movements, tapping or tones to facilitate one’s brain to process and heal from emotional pain. As a result, the client reaches a more integrated, calm and relaxed state.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a client-centred psychotherapy focusing on the motivational processes to facilitate behaviour change. It is widely used in addiction treatments to address the uncertainty and fear of change that may exist.
Motivational Interviewing works collaboratively with each individual allowing the free exploration and resolution of any ambivalence that may be impeding change.

Alpha Stim

Alpha-Stim is a Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation device that uses a low level micro-current to treat depression, anxiety and insomnia. It is a non-invasive treatment approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration since 1992. Alpha Stim has an extensive safety record with considerable evidence of the significant results that have been obtained. Alpha Stim influences the brain’s chemistry to improve one’s emotional and psychological state. The electrical stimulation increases the brain’s alpha wave pattern which induces a calm and relaxed state. Alpha-Stim can be used as a safe alternative to medication.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience. It is described as the psychological process of becoming fully aware of the present moment and the internal or external experiences that it is composed of (thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, state of the surrounding environment, sounds, etc.).

In our treatment program, we use Mindfulness to help our clients create a space of calmness. Trough Mindfulness meditation (the most common way this technique is practiced), clients are encouraged to not react emotionally, to not judge the present experiences as good or bad, but to simply acknowledge them and let go of them. During meditative sessions, practitioners help clients focus their attention on sights, sounds or bodily sensations and evacuate any other thoughts. Other Mindfulness techniques (such as yoga) can be used to increase body awareness and focus the mind on present physical movements.

12-Step Facilitation

The strength of 12-Step Facilitation resides in its structured approach, helping clients to achieve early recovery from alcohol, drugs and other addiction problems. The 12-Steps can be facilitated individually or in a group, over 12 to 15 sessions. The 12-step program is grounded in the principals of AA, including the fundamental step of acknowledging that willpower alone is not enough to remain sober. The therapy focuses on 2 main goals:

  1. Acceptance of the need for abstinence from addictive substances and behaviours
  2. Willingness to participate actively in the 12-step meetings as a means of remaining sober

The 12-step facilitator will assess the client’s alcohol/drug misuse, advocate abstinence, explain the 12-step concepts and actively support and facilitate initial involvement and ongoing participation in AA. It has been proven by experts that people who engage in 12-Step Facilitation are more likely to abstain from their addictive behaviour for longer.

Who typically seeks treatment at Alpine Horizon ?

Alpine Horizon welcomes adults from all over the world, 18 years or more, having a dependency problem but physically not in need at the time of their admission. These people include those suffering from different types of dependencies, such as substance addictions like alcohol or class B drugs (amphetamines, barbiturates, codeine, cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids) and non-substance addictions like internet, computer, cell phone and video games addiction or gambling.

Since my mother tongue is not English, will I still be able to follow your program ?

Yes, of course. Although all of our lectures and group sessions are held in English, we also work in many foreign languages, such as German, French, Russian, Spanish, Hungarian and Czech. If your mother tongue is not included in this list, please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate your needs.

Are private accommodations available ? Can I choose not to attend group sessions ?

All our bedrooms at Alpine Horizon are single occupancy, while the rest of our chalet is accessible to all clients. What does the Family Program involve ?

We encourage family members to participate in our Family Program to support the patient’s recovery. During their stay to Alpine Horizon, family members will be able to meet with our psychologists and counsellors to learn more about their role in the patient’s healing process. Family members 18 years and older (or under 18 accompanied by an adult) are welcome and private accomodations are available.

Depending on the nature of the treatment, we will be able to take into consideration your medical treatment and integrate its administration in the program.

How many clients do you admit at any given time ?

Alpine Horizon treats a maximum of 5 clients at a time. We feel this is essential to form our group sessions, to provide a low client/staff ratio and to ensure that everyone is well looked after.
